Kybella (Double Chin) Treatment kybella

Are you looking to reduce the appearance of a double chin and bring
definition back to your profile?

Mississippi residents have been searching for a minimally-invasive treatment that can significantly reduce the appearance of a ‘double chin.’ Now they have it with Kybella® and the Spring of Youth Medical Group.

Kybella® (deoxycholic acid), from the makers of Botox®, is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for submental fullness, otherwise known as a double chin. It is an injectable drug that targets the subcutaneous fat deposits responsible for moderate to severe convexity. These routine but life-enhancing procedures are carried about by highly trained and experienced professionals in the warm and comfortable surroundings of the Spring of Youth Medical Group’s state-of-the-art Gulf Coast facilities.

*Results may vary from person to person.

Kybella® is a clear, colorless liquid containing no particulate matter. It is administered via a series of small injections into the subcutaneous fat that usually lies behind submental fullness. Each injection contains 0.2mL Kybella® and a total of 50 injections will be given for a total volume of 10mL. Prior to the injection, the target area will be marked with a grid to ensure the necessary 1cm spacing between each injection is maintained. The professionals involved in carrying out this procedure have a complete understanding of the submental anatomy and have been meticulously trained to ensure the treatment is given to the correct depth – to avoid ulceration – and is kept away from important structures such as the marginal mandible nerve (MMN), salivary glands, lymph nodes and muscles.

*Results may vary from person to person.

Kybella® is not suitable for all cases of submental fullness and the Spring of Youth Medical Group will carry out a full and thorough evaluation in our comfortable suites prior to any treatment being applied. We will look at factors such as your skin laxity and the presence of platysmal bands which will indicate whether Kybella® can deliver the aesthetic effect you are looking for. We will also rule out any alternative causes of double chin such as thyromegaly or cervical lymphadenopathy since Kybella® will not work on these conditions. We will also use caution when deciding whether to proceed if you have scar tissue from previous surgeries in the target area. Kybella® is designed to be a one-time treatment but occasionally multiple treatments may be needed. A maximum of six re-treatments can be carried out with each treatment separated by at least a month.

*Results may vary from person to person.

Clinical trials of FDA-approved Kybella® revealed no permanent side-effects from the treatment with temporary bruising the most common problem reported (72% of patients). 4% of those treated received injury to the MMN leading to some short-term facial muscle weakness and paresis of the lip depressor muscles (causing an asymmetric smile); all such cases fully resolved within ten months (most within two months). 2% of those injected suffered from short-term dysphagia (swallowing problems); most of these cases resolved spontaneously within three days with all cases resolved within three months. Other temporary side effects included pain, swelling and induration (hardening) of the submental area.

If you elect for Kybella® treatment with the Spring of Youth Medical Group, your procedure will be under the direction of Dr. Hazem Barmada, an experienced cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon who has also completed the Kybella® Injection Training program.
