In addition to offering state-of-the-art vein disease treatment, the Spring of Youth Medical Group offers its Ocean Springs, MS Coast patients equally cutting-edge aesthetic care. In addition to spider veins, Dr. Hazem Barmada has selected the latest cosmetic treatments available to give your skin the same excellent care that they give your veins.
There is a natural synergy to this combination of medical specialties. While it is important to treat the medical conditions that give rise to bulging vein problems, it is equally important to treat the cosmetic aspect of these disorders. The unsightliness of varicose veins can be extremely debilitating to a patient’s self-confidence and sense of well being, so eliminating these bulging veins can literally give a person a new lease on life.
The same is true with facial skin conditions related to aging, which rob the skin of its natural tone, texture, and elasticity. While there is nothing we can do about the aging process itself, we can do something about its effects. Modern cosmetic techniques allow us to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, and thus give our patients’ faces the same smoother, younger appearance that varicose vein treatment has given to their legs. We feel that it is important to offer the same quality skin care as we do vein care, because both specialties offer as many psychological benefits to our patients as they do health benefits.
Two important treatments available to our Ocean Springs, MS patients
Although our skin care facility provides many professional treatments, two of the most popular services we offer involve the use of Botox™ and cosmetic fillers. Botox is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the world, utilizing a safe, non-surgical technique to reduce the wrinkles and fine lines that develop in the face as a result of aging. Botox – a neurochemical developed by Allergan and approved by the Federal Drug Administration since 2002 – reduces wrinkles by blocking the nerve impulses that cause facial muscles to contract and cause them.
Botox has been successfully used to reduce the appearance of several types of facial flaws, including “crows feet” around the eyes, glabellar lines between the eyebrows that give you the appearance of always frowning, and horizontal lines in your forehead that appear when you raise your eyebrows. The Botox procedure is quick (requiring less than an hour) and painless, and no recovery period is required. You see immediate results in your appearance, and the effects last for 3 to 4 months, a period that can be extended with periodic retreatment.
Fillers such as Juvederm® or Voluma® are used to correct other problems, for example to restore facial tissue that has eroded as a result of aging or injury, or to add volume to other areas of the face and neck. Although there are both permanent fillers and temporary fillers, our cosmetic specialist prefer the use of the temporary fillers initially because they are more “forgiving,” being easily removed with enzyme or being absorbed into the skin naturally over time. The effect of cosmetic fillers lasts for 6 to 8 months, and helps to fill in low areas and dips in the face, as well as smoothing out wrinkles in these areas. We believe in the minimal use of these fillers, seeking to enhance our patients’ natural beauty rather than hide or conceal flaws.
There are other cosmetic rejuvenation techniques in our skin care arsenal, and we would be happy to discuss them with you in a consultation.
