Aesthetics: Your Best Self is Waiting
At Spring of Youth Medical Group (SOYM), we are always looking for new and innovative ways to help our patients realize their best self. Whether through skin rejuvenation, injectable contouring agents, expression muscle softening or state-of-the-art hair regrowth procedures, we endeavor to beautify the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We achieve this goal to modify perception from the inside out; not by changing the appearance dramatically, but by offering subtle, confidence-boosting improvements that invoke self-worth through. While plastic surgery is changing the patient into someone else entirely and overtly, aesthetics allows a patient to progressively transition back into their previous, younger looks through tiny, subtle adjustments. With this in mind, we at Spring of Youth Medical Group are proud to offer PDO Thread Facelifts with NovaThreads.
Face It: Hiding in Plain Sight
As we age, gravity and the ravages of aging increasingly show the passage of time. This process is especially apparent in the face where we lose a teaspoonful of volume every year! We lose fat deposits, supporting connective tissue scaffolding, bone… and our skin atrophied and gets thinner. The most commonly affected areas are the eyes, jowls, cheeks, temples and neck, giving the face a “squarer” and more aged appearance. In the past, people have looked too expensive and painful, risky plastic surgery to correct time’s relentless attrition, the choice to go under the knife or age gracefully were often the only options available to most people. Not to mention the prohibitive cost of plastic surgery, made this option financially out-of-reach for many patients. However, owing to the introduction of cheaper, non-invasive, less risky and effective alternatives the paradigm of most people has changed. Unlike an invasive facelift surgery, where the skin of the face is forcibly separated from the musculature, stretched upward, and subsequently re-attached to the scalp, ear or neck, PDO Thread Facelifts are safe, minimally invasive, and cost-effective… and takes no more than 30 minutes to complete. The procedure is convenient and boasts a minimal recovery time. The process, while minimally invasive, can still reduce the sagging of skin around the jawline and neck effectively. Best of all, the threads themselves dissolve (like the sutures used in many surgical procedures) over several months, by gentle collagenosis and hydrolysis, which hold the skin and facial soft tissues in place naturally, long after the threads have gone.
Naturally, with the passage of time, the youthful “V shape” silhouette of the human face begins to square off at the angles, and the silhouette loses definition, especially in the middle and lower thirds. The sculpted cheekbones and jawlines of our youth merge into misplaced fat deposits, frown lines, and crow’s feet. The technique behind PDO Thread Facelift is that we either recreate a structural “scaffold” to support the facial tissues, give them firmness and realign to the “V shape” or delicately lift the tissues themselves, with the overlying skin back to where they once were, to create the desired skin firmness, tone and position. Although the threads are most effective in the areas of the face and neck, they can be threaded virtually anywhere in the body for almost immediate lift and restoration of appeal. The procedure is long lasting and can be performed in less than an hour. Unlike a conventional facelift which required a surgical consult and considerable recovery time and cost, a PDO Thread Facelift can be accomplished during a lunch break! The threads disappear by the 6th month after insertion; but the newly acquired appealing changes will last or an additional 12-15 months, at least, without reapplication, before more aging becomes noticeable- just like what happens in a surgical face-lift!
What They Are, and How They Work
PDO threads are the extremely well-known polydioxanone sutures, known to most cardiovascular surgeons as PDS sutures! Clearly, they have withstood the test of time in safety and reliability. Unlike most other absorbable surgical sutures, these take 4-6 months for full removal by the body. PDO Nova Threads come as hypodermic needles or blunt cannulae, preloaded with the synthetic, fully absorbable polydioxanone suture, which is FDA approved and guaranteed as one of the safest materials that can be used in the human body. Because of the mechanism of absorption of these threads over 6 months following application, they do not result in the development of scar tissue, but collagenosis (production of collagen). Yet even after the threads are long gone, the results will remain for people to see. While the sutures are attached under the skin, the dermis gently reacts to the restoration of shape. This creates a gentle, “selective inflammatory response,” which produces protective collagen to fill in the new outline as the suture dissolve. The method behind this procedure, and the majority of aesthetic procedures such as micro-needling, skin tightening, and fractioned lasers, is that the human skin is a resilient organ and repairs itself from minor damage oftentimes leaving the site nicer than it found it. This procedure is best-suited for patients who have mild to moderate signs of age-related sagging and change of contour. Examples of such age-related changes are droopiness of the brow or cheeks, the formation of jowls around the jawline, and droopiness of the neck. For more pronounced changes, PDO Thread Facelift procedures can be safely combined with any of the other aesthetic measures we offer, such as Botox®, Kybella®, or a PRP Micro-needling procedure.

The PDO Thread Facelift with NovaThreads system is not a “one size fits all” system. NovaThreads come in wide variety of different sizes and forms, including smooth and barbed threads. All that is aimed at customizing the treatment and result to the suit the individual patient’s exacting specifications. The smooth variety, which comes in different thicknesses and lengths is used to add firmness and texture to saggy areas; while the “barbed” (still painless) threads, which also come in different thicknesses, lengths and direction of barb, are designed to hold the soft tissue in place and aid in structural stability. They can be used in the forehead for a brow lift, in the jawline, cheeks, marionette lines, nasolabial folds and in the neck. A third variety, the twisted, smooth threads, serve a specific purpose of adding volume, such as defining the lip margins or ironing out deep wrinkles like those between the eyes. On our website, we have numerous diagrams showing how the different NovaThreads products work together to help you achieve your desired results. We at Spring of Youth Medical Group are very excited to add PDO Thread Facelift procedures with NovaThreads to our list of aesthetic interventions, and we hope you visit us to learn how our ever-expanding range of products and services can help you achieve your best self this summer!
